The knowledge of video popularity, defined as the number of views a video will receive per day, is critical for operating large-scale online video systems, e.g., YouTube, Netflix, Tencent Video. Tremendous research efforts have been made by both academia and industry to characterize video popularity based on empirical and theoretical studies. In this talk, we model video view count traces with epidemic models which can better predict video popularity evolution, and interpret the forces driving the evolution of video popularity. Our models are verified with video view count traces collected from a practical system Tencent Video. In addition, we conduct a case study with TV series to quantify the influence of video recommendation forces and evaluate the efficiency of (direct and word-of-mouth) video recommendation mechanisms. In the end, we briefly introduce our future works and other topics currently studied.
个人介绍:
Dr Yipeng Zhou is a lecturer in computer science with Department of Computing at Macquarie University, and the recipient of ARC Discovery Early Career Research Award, 2018. From Aug. 2016 to Feb. 2018, he was a research fellow at the Institute for Telecommunications Research (ITR) with University of South Australia. From 2013.9-2016.9, He was a lecturer with College of Computer Science and Software Engineering, Shenzhen University. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow with Institute of Network Coding (INC) of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) from Aug. 2012 to Aug. 2013. He won his PhD degree supervised by Prof. Dah Ming Chiu and Mphil degree from Information Engineering (IE) Department of CUHK in Aug. 2012 and Aug. 2008 respectively. He got Bachelor degree in Computer Science from University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). He has published more than 50 publications including 20+ ACM/IEEE Transactions papers.
